I think we'll see it in our lifetimes, but I highly doubt we'll see it during the next 5 years even if President Obama wins a second term. The "OMGdrugs" reaction from people who don't know enough to understand the difference between pot and heroin is simply too entrenched, especially with the older generation (a demographic over-represented in the United States Congress.)

As a corollary to this, perhaps part of the reason that many people are so afraid of homosexuality is that there isn't necessarily an outward trait to which a label can be attached, thus making it hard for people who need the comfort of their label trap.

@Claire

I won't claim to know the truth regarding the events of 9/11; there are certainly some holes in the official story, just as much so as in the findings of the Warren (JFK) and Tower (Iran-Contra) Commissions. Whichever version is true, though, it's clear that the event was designed to inspire anti-Islamic sentiment and succeeded in its mission, to the detriment of societal harmony in America.

I have no opinion regarding the decision by Judge Walker regarding gay marriage in California, as I don’t think this is really an issue for the constitution, the law, the state, religious groups and or busybody citizens. However I do object to the hijacking of the word gay.

Homosexual men and lesbian women represent a very wide cross section of society and as such there are angry, sad, aggressive, passive, wild and violent, loving and gentle people of that same persuasion and they aren’t always happy.

The term gay was originally used to refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy" and had also come to acquire some connotations of "immorality" as early as 1637, so how did it become synonymous with same sex relationships.

I like the word gay, but I am annoyed that I cannot use it any more.

I also have some issue with a judge who was brought up Catholic and is gay. Catholics are never gay, not officially, nor are they joyful. How can you be joyful when you celebrate the ritualistic death of your so-called saviour who was the bastard son of an imaginary being and was born to a woman who never had intercourse with a man?

Oh sorry, on second thoughts, I think I was wrong, I am now thinking of Kal El, the Boy Scout in Blue. In any case all Catholics are notoriously repressed and eternally guilty, because they were actually responsible for keeping Sundays shopping free and wanting women to remain in the missionary position but not in any other important social roles.

Of course I can totally empathise with this view when I think about
Sarah Palin, but we are of course, only talking about higher office being the 59th floor of the Trump World Tower in New York.

In any case to all of you gay people out there and all of those who want to be, like to be, not able to be gay people – I wish you well, and remind you not to vote for Sarah Palin.
