Two more shootings on college campuses today, at Northern Arizona University and at Texas Southern University.

I refuse to just say, as the victims’ elected representatives seem content to do, that my thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families; that is not enough and never will be enough. If all you’re prepared to do is tweet thoughts and prayers, Senator, then all you’re doing is grandstanding while your constituents die. And it’s sick.

When, exactly, do we come together as a nation to say that enough is enough, that this must end? How many more of our sons and daughters have to die before we put an end to this madness?

We’ve all heard about the mass shooting in Oregon today. The 45th school shooting so far in 2015 (that’s 39 weeks).

Something like this should shock me to the core. Instead, it barely even surprises me any more. What the hell have we become?

It should be noted that in the scant hours since this happened, there has been a shooting in Inglis, FL, and another in Glendale, AZ – and those are just the ones I have heard about. I have no doubt that there have been another twenty I don’t even know about.

No. More ‘good guys with guns’ will not solve this problem. More guns will not solve the problem of guns, period. Making it harder to get guns than to get drivers’ licenses will help. Making it harder to get bullets than to get Sudafed will help.

For what it’s worth, I know there are responsible gun owners, home defense, hunting etc. and those people are not typically part of the problem. I’m not saying we should ban guns, but I think if we’re going to keep the Second Amendment, we have a constitutional duty to abide by the words ‘well-regulated’ in that Amendment rather than just the words ‘shall not be infringed’.

America can do better than this. America deserves better than this.
